Brief Profile

Poonam Barhoi completed PhD in Organizational Behavior and Human Resource Management from the Indian Institute of Management Indore. Her doctoral dissertation is titled “Challenges in Gender-Based Violence Prevention Work and Restorative Approach in Gender Justice.” For her dissertation, she conducted a quasi-ethnographic study with a women’s court in India to explore the challenges in GBV prevention work. She has presented her research at international conferences such as the Academy of Management, British Academy of Management, and Gender, Work & Organization. A paper based on her thesis has been awarded the “Best Critical Doctoral Student Paper” award from the Critical Management Studies division at the Academy of Management 2023 annual meeting. 

Her research interests include gender-based violence, diversity and inclusion, socio-economic inequalities, indigeneity, and postcolonial feminist studies. She received fellowships from India Fellow Social Leadership Program and the AIR Fellowship- Writing and Mentorship. She is a recipient of Academy of Management doctoral student scholarships in 2021, 2022, and 2023 from Gender & Diversity in Organizations (GDO)Critical Management Studies (CMS), and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) divisions. She has also received an ICSSR travel grant for international conferences. Poonam worked earlier in academia for a year and in the social development sector for three years.
