National Sports Assembly

Winter Session of the National Sports Assembly was jointly organized by IMT Ghaziabad and Sports: A Way of Life in IMT Ghaziabad on 30th January 2023. This assembly session was attended by 19 Distinguished Sports Luminaries across different sports. The Sports Research Centre of IMT Ghaziabad proposed three reforms. After in-depth discussions and deliberations, all the proposals were put to vote. The assembly passed all three proposals with a unanimous vote.

Proposal 1: Creating more job opportunities for sportspersons

Creating more job opportunities for sportspersons within corporate sectors is essential for our society. Not only will it provide a source of income for athletes, but it will also enable companies to benefit from their skills and expertise. Let us work together to support this cause and help our society achieve its full potential.

Proposal 2: Right to Sports as a Fundamental Right

We must take immediate action to establish the right to sports as a fundamental right. Providing access to sports can profoundly impact individuals and communities, improving physical and mental health, promoting social inclusion, and fostering personal development. Let us work together to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to engage in sports and experience its many benefits.

Proposal 3: Sportsperson Welfare Board

Every state must establish a sportsperson welfare board to ensure the well-being of athletes. The board should provide all necessary support and resources to help athletes reach their full potential. Such a board can play a vital role in promoting sports and nurturing sporting talent in the country.

National Sports Assembly

National Sports Assembly is the first of its kind initiative of IMT Ghaziabad. National Sports Assembly will be a permanent body that meets yearly for at least six months, i.e., twice a year. The whole purpose of the assembly will be to devise suggestions for the Central Government or various State Governments for improvement in sports performance.

The assembly will bring out a white paper on the improvement of Sports Culture at the end of every sitting. The suggestions will be compiled and seconded by the assembly members, and the same will be handed over to the Sports Ministry in the Central Government.

Structure of the Assembly: The Assembly will have:

• Chairman – Director IMT Ghaziabad
• Chief Proposer – Head – Sports Research Centre, IMT Ghaziabad – Kanishka Pandey
• Leader of the Assembly – Senior most sports personality.
• Deputy Leader of the Assembly – 2nd Senior most sports personality.
• Members of Assembly.
