In the past, he served as a board member with UTI (Unit Trust of India) Pension, Top 3 pension fund, NEML(National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange eMarkets Ltd.), a spot agricultural commodity exchange, MMCM (Meta Materials Circular Markets), an automotive sustainability platform, and MarketLinc India, an AI company headquartered in Canada.

Previously, Dr. Gupta managed a CAT-I, AIF (Alternative Investment Fund), Kentrus Investment Advisors. In addition to directing investments, he has been a CIO (Chief Investment Officer) advisor to a $1 billion+ family office. He also co-founded a fintech company, ideated by Riya Gupta, SimpliLend, that automated credit sourcing, evaluation, and dissemination in close partnerships with NBFC’s using machine learning and artificial intelligence driven technology platform.

Prior to his investment roles, Dr. Gupta served as a member of the senior management with leading global organizations based out of North America. He has experience in operating, scaling, and selling technology enabled businesses (>US$1 billion). He worked with ACL Systems (later renamed Galvanize and sold to Diligent for $1B+), Crystal Decisions (sold to Business Objects for $1B+ and now a part of SAP AG), and Sun Microsystems. He has also been a strategy consultant with Ernst & Young in financial services and technology industries with clients that included global exchanges, leading banks, and other financial infrastructure companies.

Dr. Gupta serves as an adjunct professor in Finance at the Institute of Management Technology (IMT) Ghaziabad. He helps mentor faculty members, speaks at various institutional events, and frequently expresses his views on finance and entrepreneurship related policy matters. He has also been a visiting faculty member at S.P. Jain Institute of Management, Faculty of Management Studies (Delhi University), and Master’s Union. He has also been invited to speak at leading global institutions including Kellogg Graduate School of Management (Northwestern University), ISB (Indian School of Business), HEC Montreal (Université de Montréal), Tefler School of Management (University of Ottawa) , Sauder Business School, (University of British Columbia), and Nyenrode Business Universiteit. He is also invited as a guest speaker at the IOD (Institute of Directors) “Masterclass for Directors” on various topics including strategic leadership of corporate boards, role of board committees, mandatory committees, and transformative technologies.

He is a frequent author in major daily newspapers, corporate governance organizations, and academic journals. His articles ranging from private equity, financial services, technology, and corporate governance have been published in Business Standard, Financial Express, Hindu Business line, Forbes India, IOD (Institute of Directors), Board Stewardship, etc. His book “Venture Catalysts: The architecture of venture and private equity in a changing world” is expected to be launched in 2026.

By way of educational background, Dr. Gupta has a doctorate (PhD) from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi, master’s in business from the J. L. Kellogg School of Management (Northwestern University) and a bachelor’s in engineering (Computer Science) from Mangalore University. He is a life member of IOD and former TIE (The IndUS Entrepreneurs) Charter member in North America, and supporter of various non-for-profit institutions.
