Dr Chattopadhyay holds a PhD degree from Aligarh Muslim University in the area of Marketing Strategy.
He has held leadership positions in two leading institutions of India as Dean, MICA, Ahmedabad and as Deputy Director at S P Jain Institute of Management & Research (SPJIMR), Mumbai.
Dr. Chattopadhyay’s teaching and research interests are in the area of Retail Shopper Marketing and Strategic Marketing. He has been an entrepreneur, educator and an institution builder.
As Dean- MICA, Dr Chattopadhyay was instrumental in increasing the application pool of aspirants to a record high. He was also deeply involved in improving the academic delivery process which resulted in enhanced student satisfaction. In his short stint, he vastly improved the industry linkages of MICA including the formation of an Advisory Board for the Digital Marketing specialisation to formulate a contemporary curriculum – first of its kind in India.
At SPJIMR, Dr. Chattopadhyay successfully led the flagship two-year PGDM Program of SPJIMR for over five years. He was instrumental in positioning the 2-Year PGDM program at SPJIMR for ‘Global Relevance & Social Sensitivity’ and program got ranked among the top 5 MBA programs in India during his tenure.
Over those five years he has played a vital role in increasing enrolments, maintaining 100% placements, expanding international student exchange, restructuring curriculum, transitioning to semester system, enhancing alumni engagement, and has successfully submitted programs for accreditation by AACSB.
He spearheaded the launch of the ‘Global Fast Track’, where all participants undertook advanced specialization courses and projects in partnering top US B-Schools (Carnegie Mellon, Cornell, Darden and Purdue). His efforts resulted in the program attracting international participants.
He played a key role in bringing innovations like ‘Business Consulting Projects’ in the 1st Year and introducing a minor specialization in ‘Consulting’.
The ‘Abhyudaya’ initiative (where students mentor underprivileged school children studying in municipal schools over the weekends) was launched during his tenure – the initiative was awarded GMAC Met Fund Award of USD 163,000.00.
Dr. Chattopadhyay believes in Internationalization of Indian institutions and has presented across various International forums of AACSB and GMAC.
As consultant he has advised leading companies in the area of ‘Shopper Marketing’. He was the lead consultant for ‘Project Corner’ at Johnson and Johnson – which entailed the study of the shopper behaviour in general trade retail covering South East Asia and Latin America.
At IMT-Ghaziabad, Dr Chattopadhyay dreams of creating a ‘Global Indian B-School’ under his dynamic leadership.
