IMT Ghaziabad organised the first IMT Business Conclave on the theme “India By 2025” as part of its annual management and cultural fest Passion ’16 on October 21, 2016 at its campus in Ghaziabad, Delhi NCR.
India By 2025, a moderated panel discussion, had the eminent panellists like Ms Sudha Pillai (Former Member Secretary, Planning Commission, Government of India and Chairperson of FICCI Women on Corporate Boards Mentorship Programme), Mr Rohit Gandhi (Editor-in-chief, World Is One News & DNA, Zee Media), Ms Ruchira Jaitly (Director, Strategy and Nutrition Challenges, Royal DSM and Former Sr. Director Marketing, PepsiCo India), and Mr Mohit Kapoor (VP, Advertising and Alliances, Reliance Jio).
Mr Subhomoy Bhattacharjee, Consulting Editor, Business Standard moderated the panel discussion.
The conclave provided an eclectic set of opinions about the new challenges and opportunities in our nation with India set to become the most populous nation by 2025. The panel deliberated on the following key questions among many others:
— Will the sentiment that “India lives in its villages” still remain true?
— Will agriculture still be the mainstay on our economy and employment?
— What will the service industry be like?
— What will the India of 2025 look like if it continues to be the fastest growing major economy?
— Is the start-up ecosystem in India a reality for future?
— Are we leveraging technology enough?
The panel almost unanimously agreed that there’s no doubt about India remaining the fastest growing major economy while becoming the most populous country in the world. However, the challenges that face us are wide ranging – right from sanitation to pollution to education to human rights to employment to environment protection to wealth distribution and so on. Today, we don’t really seem to be equipped enough to tackle all of these in the most effective manner but we have definitely made a great start towards many of them. Also, the rise of an entrepreneurial class and the disruptive technologies are the two things that are going to play a crucial role for the country to propel from a developing nation to a developed one.
The event was a full-house and both the students and the faculty appreciated the insightful discussion.
