IMT Ghaziabad was the proud host of the first ever Startup Weekend Ghaziabad held from 17th Feb to 19th Feb. This was a milestone event for Entrepreneurship Cell IMT Ghaziabad as it is the first step of creating a community of like-minded individuals in Ghaziabad who nurture entrepreneurship.
Promotional activities started almost three months back with social media campaigning, outreach programs, promotions in meetups. The organising team from Entrepreneurship Cell was constantly supported by Anurag Maloo and Amlan Patnaik from TechStar, the parent organisation which conducts Startup Weekends globally. All efforts were expended to sell tickets to code developers, designers and business candidates across engineering and management institution in Ghaziabad and Delhi NCR. There were more than 50 participants, 9 mentors and 4 judges on board for Startup Weekend Ghaziabad.
The pitch round on Day 1 saw more than 35 pitches being made by the participants. This was finally filtered to 10 ideas which were taken up and worked upon. Ideas were from food delivery, selling premium brands to aspirational customers, online publication platform, revolutionising restaurants to pursuing of hobbies and anonymous chat groups. Day 2 saw teams giving shape to their ideas with websites, facebook pages, business canvas models, online and offline surveys, the creation of process flows and application wireframes. Mentors lent their experience and expertise to teams to fine tune their business models. Day 3 was more hectic as more mentors were lined up and final presentations were scheduled. Mr Saumyajit Guha (Co-Principal, Jaarvis Accelerator), Mr Daman Kohli (Co-Founder, Cook Gourmet) and Mr Dhruv Goyal (Co-Founder, Editsoft) constituted the judging panel.
Teams started off their presentations with 5 minutes of pitch time and 3 minutes of Q&A. It was quite amazing to see the pitches had improved and how their ideas had matured in just two and a half days! Team Writist, an online publication platform for writers, editors and publishers, emerged winners whereas Team SipsNBites, a food delivery application, was a close second. The event closed with certificate distribution and networking dinner. Now the much-anticipated part is to see how many of these ideas see the light of the day in the form a real startup.
