As the winter chill reaches its peak and temperatures drop to an all-time low, the undying sporting passion reaches an all-time high, amongst B-schools all over India as they have only one thing on their mind – Chakravyuh.
The festival derives its name from a seven-layer formation from the epic Mahabharata, and aims to search for its “Abhimanyu” every year.
The phenomenon traces its roots back to 21 years, establishing itself as the jewel in the crown of the 36-year history of IMT Ghaziabad.
This sporting spectacle takes place in the second week of February every year, with 25 teams from pioneering b-schools counting themselves as the participants. The competition spans across eight diverse sports, namely Lawn Tennis, Cricket, Basketball, Football, Table Tennis, Volleyball, Badminton and Throwball.
Winning an Olympic medal isn’t a piece of cake, and verily so, putting your hands on the Chakravyuh trophy too, would require a complete blend of strategizing, team work and dedication. With the contestants including the likes of the esteemed legends and Alumni of IMT Ghaziabad, the home players of IMT as well as the ones from premier b-schools like IIMs, SP Jain, MDI, IIFT, JBIMS, IMI etc have to be on their toes throughout the event. Adding to the thrill and fervour are the 6000 odd spectators, who, through their cheering skills, create an unmatched environment, enveloping IMT in the mood of euphoria.
With a continuous- unstoppable tussle of 72 hours, the teams put in every bit of strength and expertise they possess to win the coveted trophy.
Nicknamed as the Olympics of b-schools, Chakravyuh kick-starts with a grand opening ceremony, which is followed by three days of insane sporting action and then, the curtains are drawn for the season with a dazzling closing ceremony.
The magnanimity of Chakravyuh 18 can be easily seen through the list of its corporate partners. From industry giants like Fastrack, to premier organizations such as Relaxo India limited , the list is awe inspiring. Complementing them are the PSU’s such as State Bank of India, and the support of Media partners-namely Radio One and Amar Ujala makes a formidable line-up.
Following the spirit behind the monumental work of Jack London, “CALL OF THE WILD”, Chakravyuh 2018 celebrates the spirit humans of answering to their beast to achieve the impossible or as Jack London quotes:
“He was mastered by the sheer surging of life, the tidal wave of being, the perfect joy of each separate muscle, joint, and sinew in that it was everything that was not death, that it was aglow and rampant, expressing itself in movement, flying exultantly under the stars.”
Such is the ecstatic feeling of the victor, one who overcomes all odds, one who redesigns the plans, one who rebuilds himself after each tryst and finally conquers the gold and relishes in it’s divine strength.
The wilderness is a cruel, uncaring world, where only the strong prosper. It is, one might say, a perfect Darwinian world.
CHALLENGE, SURVIVE, and CONQUER, to be crowned the winners of the CHAKRAVYUH TROPHY.
