“You see that cricket pitch there in the ground? We laid it out with our own hands.”

Meet Mr. Bhupendra Singh, Head HR, Lahmeyer International India Pvt. Ltd. If you happen to take a walk with him around IMT Ghaziabad, you’ll realise that his batch of 1988 had left its mark on the campus.

“There were just 60 of us in those days. See that amphitheatre there? We helped lay the bricks,” he says with the fondness of a man who truly believes that IMT Ghaziabad belongs to him, and vice versa. “I still remember a practice where the batch passing out used to donate something before bidding farewell to the institute. Our batch had donated a water cooler to the mess, with money collected from all of us.”

Mr. Bhupendra Singh had been able to pull some time out from his busy schedule for the alumni meet at IMT Ghaziabad.

Having been the Head, Talent Acquisition and HR operations of Lanco Infratech Ltd. Mr. Singh recently joined Lahmeyer International India Pvt. Ltd as its Head HR. “I am responsible for the HR function for my organisation. It’s a round-the-clock process nowadays. I try to reach office half an hour early; it keeps me in control of the tasks that I need to assign my team. I believe in weekly planning, not in daily planning. I conduct a weekly review, set weekly targets and discuss all our strategies in a weekly meeting.” Mr. Singh believes that more than anything else, IMT gave him perspective.

“We were extremely naughty. We used to visit Hapur Chungi for late night paranthas. Rajnagar was at that time not the huge colony that it is now; it was a stretch of open land with just a few bungalows dotting the landscape. We would often go out for a picnic there. IMT Ghaziabad was the centre of our lives and we used to have a lotof fun. But we also gained immensely in maturity. IMT Ghaziabad helped each one of us understand what we could contribute and how we could do it, and create value for society. We had very good professors on campus who gave us an inside view of industry. To see IMT Ghaziabadevolve into a leading B-school is a feeling that cannot be expressed in words.”

Mr. Bhupendra Singh is confident that with the kind of infrastructure and changes that IMT Ghaziabad has undergone over the years, it’s only a matter of time before the young guns of his alma mater will be creating headlines across the country – and the globe.
