IMT Ghaziabad: Alumni turn as SHEpreneurs; making their own way to strengthen women powers

IMT Ghaziabad women alumni have carved niche in their careers and are contributing to the growth of Indian economy as SHEpreneurs. Kanika Kohli, Founder, Mentor and Director at VegaLyfe.com; Ishita Swarup, Founder, 9Rasa;  Madhulika Makar, Founder TriEdge Solutions;  Nishu Tripathi, Founder, Anaira Jewels; and Disha Saxena, Founder, Café Wanderlust are only a few of such entrepreneurship examples.

Over the past few years, the position and status of Indian women has been subject to many changes. The promotion of equal rights of women in India has been very encouraging. Moreover, the technological advancements and rise in internet profundity has opened the doors for a plethora of opportunities for women in this country.

More and more women have taken the drive to pursue their dreams and ambitions. Balancing career and entrepreneurial aspirations with home, safety and social accountability with business mobility, women have been witness to the unfolding of a vast canvas to express themselves.

Kanika Kohli: PGDM Executive 2005

Kanika is the Founder, Mentor and Director at VegaLyfe.com. Vegalyfe.com is India’s first online store for Vegans, vegetarians and to support healthy living. Vegalyfe.com offers over thousands of pure vegetarian, vegan, organic & herbal products, right from chemical or pesticide free and naturally grown pulses, rice, wheat, spices, cereals, vegetable oil to latest non-leather fashion collections. She is also a Volunteer and Co-Founder of Education Center for Slum Kids- AID India.

Kanika has been an active speaker at social events and has supported women empowerment. In an interview, she said, “as a woman our priorities “can” easily switch between work, family & much more. Passion is one single thing that inspires one to stay on track!”

Ishita Swarup: PGDM 1991
Founder, 9Rasa



Ishita founded 9Rasa in the year 2009. 9Rasa celebrates the essence of the modern Indian woman which is vibrant, glowing with promise, and grounded in her traditions as well. 99labels is a pioneering innovative concept introduced to India for the first time. Ishita has been working towards creating 99labels since March 2009.

On being asked about her strengths in a man’s world Ishita replied, Personally challenging myself, seeing a venture take shape from idea to reality and then taking it to a growth level is something that motivates me. I feel any partnership will work if you have your fundamentals correct, roles defined and most importantly everything documented from day one”.

Madhulika Makar: PGDM 1995
Founder TriEdge Solutions

 

Madhulika is currently a Director at TriEdge Solutions. With a foundation built on more than 15 years of extensive talent search and acquisition experience, TriEdge in partnership with TimesJob, is India’s 2nd largest job portal offers a unique and holistic Recruiter Skill Certification for IT and non-IT recruiters across.

The organisation also develops and delivers creative Training Interventions for capability enhancement. Working with individuals, corporates and management institutes, company currently offers interviewing skills enhancement, effective team management, financial acumen and business communication programs.

Prior to TriEdge Solutions, Madhulika was a Director at Mirus Solutions. Earlier to that, she held senior positions at Standard Chartered Bank and Goodlass Nerolac Paints.

In an interview with ‘Economic Times’, Madhulika said, “Times are changing and so has the definition of working women and women entrepreneurship. We are all agents of change and will make a difference in times to come.” 

Nishu Tripathi: PGDM 2000
Founder, Anaira Jewels

Nishu Tripathi founded Anaira’s Jewels in 2010. Anaira’s Jewels is backed by professionals who are marketing and expanding the network of the diamond jewellery brand and aiming to reach out to buyers who give utmost priority to fine quality. Their products include Diamond Solitaires, Office Wear Jewelry, Designer Evening Wear Jewellery and Jewellery for occasions.

Prior to founding Anaira’s Jewels, Nishu has held several top positions in companies like Swatch Group and Swarovski.

“The growing women’s entrepreneurship movement has made it easier for other women to follow suit and start their own business. There are more organisations and resources available to help them.” Said, Tripathi

Disha Saxena: PGDM 2007
Founder, Café Wanderlust  

Disha Saxena founded Cafe Wanderlust that was born out of the passion to travel, to see, and to experience the world and its ways. Their philosophy is “Live to Travel, Live to Eat”. Prior to founding Cafe Wanderlust, she has worked at Birdy’s Bakery and Patisserie, Costa Coffee and iMarketing Advantage.

In an interview with, Huffington Post, she said, “A prerequisite to being an entrepreneur is to finely tune your decision-making abilities. In my time as CEO, I have learned to be comfortable making decisions with less than perfect information, while being mindful of the various viewpoints.” 

IMT Ghaziabad is one such B-School that has honed its candidates who have chosen unconventional fields to pursue their passion and dream. The institute has recently introduced an interesting concept of Entrepreneur-in-Residence wherein the students (the EIRs) are offered an opportunity to pitch their ideas to potential investors and get mentored by strong alumni base.
