PASSION 2014: Millennials Rising

IMT Ghaziabad’s annual management and cultural festival Passion has been bigger this year than ever. A melange of events spanning across various verticals of management, arts and culture, Passion 2014 experienced a rush of participants from the leading B-schools of the country including IIM Indore, IIM Rohtak, NMIMS, Welingkar, KJSOM, MDI, IMI, SRCC, IIT Delhi, BITS Pilani, FORE and Amity among others. After the initial online screening of almost 2500 participants, the final round of all the competitions were conducted on the IMT Ghaziabad campus between the 17th and 19th of October, 2014.

This year, Passion endorsed the theme “Rise Of The Millennials” which embodies the spirit of a generation that believes in innovation, discovery, and transformation of archaic social and business practices to forge a new world order. Understandably so, all the events revolved around the issues and challenges faced by the millennials in industry and society, in general.

As a build up to the mega event, ‘Cyclothon’, the pre-Passion cycling marathon, a CSR activity, was conducted in Delhi. The event received a great response from the corporates and amassed a participation of more than 300 cyclists from across Delhi and NCR. ‘Delhi Cyclists’, one of the most popular cycling associations in the country, was associated with this event. The initiative was responsible for spreading awareness pertaining to the ‘lifestyle diseases’ that plague the world today.

The inauguration ceremony of Passion 2014 began with the launch of Tatva, Passion’s flagship summer internship presentation competition and was a spectacular affair which had Mr. Amit Gupta, CEO and President of Hero Motors, as the chief guest and the key note speaker.

In Tatva, participants from across the country’s biggest B schools studying in the second year of their management courses presented their summer internship projects in the fields of Consulting, Finance, Marketing, Human Resources, and Strategy and Operations.

Passion 2014 had focused, management based events revolving around the verticals of Marketing (3 Marketeers), Operations (Operationale), Finance (FinSpin), Governance & Public Policy (V Govern), Strategy (Start Jack), Human Resources (HR-Mony), Consulting (Consulenza) and Ace of Spades, a 36 hour long event, which tests the mental, psychological and behavioural dimension of participants under the most stressful circumstances. This year, the fest managed to collaborate, for each of its verticals, with notable industry partners to bring an added degree of realism to the events. For instance, FinSpin was held in association with the IFC World Bank Group while 3 Marketeers was sponsored by the upcoming online applications developer SquadRun, which offered PPI/PPO(summer) to the winning participants.

Further, Passion 2014 saw some of the most eminent names from the industry as judges such as Mr. Nitin Bahl, Country Manager (Marketing) - Motorola, Mr. Neeraj Mehra, Director- Human Resource - Thomson Reuters, Mr. Varun Mathur- GM, Nimbuz Sports & Head (North India) and others.

The intense management events were followed by a flurry of cultural extravaganza which included a LAN gaming competition, two stunning dance competitions in Nexstar (solo dance) and B-Dazzle (group dance), Panache, the fashion show, Model United Nations, Raaga, the singing competition, Battle of Bands, Nukkad Naatak, a street play, etc. Panache struck the right chords with the judges, participants and audiences alike. Other cultural events like T-Craft (T-shirt painting), Paper Wear, Clowning me (Face painting) and Adzap-MadAds (Quick advertisement making) kept the tempo of the festival going.

The highlight of Passion 2014 was the Alumni Night by Coke Studio on 18th October where the crowd swayed to the soulful performance of the famed band Faridkot. The star night of Passion saw two power packed performances - the first, by one of India’s most iconic bands, Euphoria, led by the charismatic Dr. Palash Sen and the second, by the groovy and dazzling Sunburn artist Aceaxe.
