PGDM Part-Time

The three-year part-time Post-Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM-P/T) was started by the Institute in 1981 and is approved by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). The programme is aimed at providing opportunities to working professionals to take up formal management education while pursuing their jobs in order to gain knowledge and build on analytical and decision making skills to develop them into more effective managers in the industry. It intends to create managerial competencies in working professionals.

“Today, only a small number of working professionals can discontinue their careers and spare two years for pursuing full-time MBA programme. PGDM (part-time) is next best option as it provides them the opportunity to pursue their jobs and take up formal management education with same rigour as that of full time MBA programme, “says Dr. Sita Mishra, Chairperson of the PGDM (Executive) and Part-Time programmes at IMT. The PGDM (P/T) programme is different from distance learning management programmes in terms of academic content, regularity and rigour. It provides similar class room contact hours as that of two year full time programme which is definitely higher than distance learning management programmes. “There is no compromise in terms of quality of education, course portfolio and number of sessions involved in a course. Only limitation of part-time PGDM programme is that it takes longer time to complete, and students need to commit to their coursework while managing a hectic work schedule and family life,” says Dr. Sita Mishra.

The programme comprises of nine terms spread over a period of three years and each term is approximately 3 month in duration. The complete programme is of 119 credits in all and covers 26 core courses, 14 elective courses and a research project. A course can be of 1.5, 2 or 3 credits. One credit is equivalent to 10 teaching/contact hours. A course is scheduled in 10 sessions of three hours each to meet the requirements of 30 contact hours. This programme requires attending classes regularly (from 6.30 p.m. to 9.30 p.m.in weekdays and/or on weekends) at Noida centre (which is a branch of IMT, Ghaziabad) and is beneficial to all working professional in Delhi and NCR. The programme incorporates flexibility in timings and choice of electives and has special features designed to take into consideration the demand of office time of working professionals. The students have the flexibility to complete the programme within five years of joining. This flexibility provides them the option to drop a term and resume studies at an appropriate time. However, before taking such term/year break requires prior permission from the Institute.
