Overview

The small scale sector has played a key role in the economic development of the country and it has grown phenomenally over the past five decades. The development of the small sector has therefore been an important component of India’s industrial policy.

Successfully managing a business requires specific management skills in addition to knowledge of key business practices. Effective small-business management includes the proper handling of finances, resources, equipment, employees, competitors, suppliers and marketing initiatives to create a better business results.

In SMEs senior executives wear a number of functional hats but often only have training or experience in one specialist area. This programme is designed to assist them develop generalist management skills to manage their tangible and intangible resources in most effective ways. It will include the courses from the areas important to manage the business including: marketing, human resource management, finance and operations.

Objectives

The programme is developed for senior executives of SMEs to gain an in depth understanding of the role and function of management. The programme aims at

  • Develop their knowledge and understanding of the management process
  • Developing general management skills for effective management of SMEs
  • Inducing system/ process driven data based decision making abilities
  • Learn to use tools and techniques to carry out projects effectively
  • Develop additional skills in finance, people and profit management

These learning and skills will help the SMEs in optimal resources allocation and utilization, cost reduction, better handling of human resources and positioning of SMEs in the competitive scenario.

Eligibility

  • A Bachelor Degree (or Equivalent) in any discipline
  • Minimum Work Experience of 3 year

Programme Coverage

The six month Certificate programme is a comprehensive curriculum to cover the core subjects in management. This will have three Modules comprising of theory and real life projects. First 2 modules will have 4 papers and 3rd module will have 2 papers of 12 hrs each.

Module I

  1. Operations Management
  2. Financial accounting for managers
  3. Business to Business Marketing
  4. Micro level labor laws applicable to SMEs (1)

Module II

  1. Supply chain Management
  2. Total Quality Management
  3. Financial Management for SMEs
  4. Micro level labor laws applicable to SMEs (2)

Module III

  1. Corporate tax planning and management
  2. Relevant ISO Standards

Every Saturday: 10.00 am – 5.30pm

Pedagogy

The programme will be conducted by our team of eminent faculty with classroom interaction with the officer through interaction during lectures, case –studies, project assignment, presentations with a blend of strong industry inputs given by the various practicing managers.

The learning process is enhanced by an ongoing process of feedback. The curriculum maintains a healthy balance between depth and breadth of knowledge and skills thus combining a strong conceptual base with exposure to contemporary practices and trends.

Evaluation

The participants will be evaluated on a continuous basis through quizzes, assignments tests and examination during each term. The participants need to attend classes a regularly minimum criterion is of 85% to be eligible to appear for the examinations.

Registration & Fees

Rs 40,000/+ service tax as applicable- payable as per the installment pattern given below:

1st installment Rs.25,000+service tax as applicable – At the time of registration, through DD in favor of Institute of Management Technology Ghaziabad (Last Date 10th Feburary 2010)
2nd Installment Rs. 15,000/+service tax as applicable – By the 10th day of fourth month of the programme, through DD in favor of Institute of Management Technology Ghaziabad (Last date 30th May 2010)

This includes academic fees, books for participants, tea, and lunch. Payment should be made by crossed demand draft in favour of “Institute of Management Technology”, Ghaziabad. Please mail the nomination form duly filled in along with the demand draft to the senior administrative Officer (MDP), Institute of Management Technology, Raj Nagar, Ghaziabad 201001, UP.

Last Date

The last date for withdrawal of nomination is 10 February 2010. Any withdrawal received after this date will be subject to deduction as per the Institute’s rule. However, substitutions may be permitted.

Programme Directors

Prof. B.D. Singh holds M.A. (Hit.) degree from Patna University and M.A. & (L.S.W.) & L L B from Ranchi University. He did his MBA, (condensed) from IIM,Calcutta. He worked in various capacities in SAIL, RINL and lastly at NALCO, from where he retired as Director (Personnel). Besides exposure to a number of national & international training programmes, he completed Advance Management programme from ASCI, Hyderabad. Prof. Singh is widely traveled, which includes visits to South- east Asia , Middle- east Asia., Europe, USA, Canada , Japan & Australia. He was the Chairman of Utkal chapter of NIPM for two consecutive terms and is also life member of NIPM. He is also associated with HRD Network of India & ISTD, holding the post of co-Chairman of the Diploma Board of ISTD . He is also associated with many management institutes like ASCI, IIMC, XIMB, FORE, LBS, IGNOU as a visiting faculty. Prof. Singh’s last assignment was Professor HRM, MDI, Gurgaon. He has above 45 publications on HR, IR & General Management topics and a book ‘Industrial Relation: Emerging Paradigms to his credit. He does consultancy and training with MUL, Hero-Honda, IPCL, BALCO, SAIL, KPMG, SBI, AAI etc. He is in the editorial Boards of several managements schools and ‘AWARD’, a national journal published by V.V.Giri National Labour Institute.

Dr. Bindu Gupta is Ph.D. in Psychology with specialization in Organizational Behavior from India Institute of Technology Kanpur, India. She has experience of nearly fifteen years in the areas of teaching and research. At present, Dr. Bindu Gupta is a faculty member in the area of organizational behavior and Human Resource Management at Institute of Management Technology, Ghaziabad, India. She teaches organizational behavior, organization theory, performance management and training and development. She has authored various papers that appeared in reputed national and international journals. She also has been the editors of three books. She has organized International conferences and presented papers in national and international conferences. She has been actively involved in training and consultancy. She is a qualified trainer of MBTI. Being a psychologist she has keen interest and expertise in assessing and understanding individuals. She has been avid user of different psychometric tools, exercises and management games during the training of working professionals.
